Donald Trump Officially Announces Mike Pence As His Running Mate

Pence, standing alone in front of American flags, hewed closely to the populist themes that Trump has voiced on the campaign trail, describing himself as “really just a small-town boy”.

Donald Trump said Saturday that the man who will join him on the Republican presidential ticket is a “man of character, honor and honesty”.

Trump’s remarks came during a rambling New York City speech in which he officially introduced Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his pick for vice president. Stahl asked the governor, referring back to Trump’s disparaging comments about the former Vietnam prisoner of war last July.

“They want leadership in Washington, D.C., that will solve problems”, added Pence, before Trump stepped in to clarify their new team dynamic.

When Pence took the stage he said “I accept your invitation to run and serve as Vice President of America”.

The Donald Trump campaign is hosting a “welcome home rally” in Zionsville for VP candidate and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

“I think it helps but I don’t think I needed him, no, because I won with evangelicals”, Trump said.

He called Trump a builder, a fighter, and a patriotic American who “has set aside a legendary career to build a stronger America”.

The interview on CBS’s “60 Minutes” highlighted a challenge Trump will face now that has put the IN governor on the GOP ticket: dealing with questions about where the two have disagreed.

Trump and Pence will be at the Republican Party’s national convention this week in Cleveland where Trump is expected to get the party’s formal nomination. “When I see what happened with respect to the numbers with the state and everything else, that to me was probably the single most important point”, Trump said.

With Trump’s selection done, the attention now shifts to Hillary Clinton.

“The Middle East today is more unstable than ever before”. He also said the Pence family planned to return to the governor’s residence in Indianapolis for “pizza night”.
