Donald Trump orders ban on Las Vegas-style bump stock gun modifications

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump spoke last week with Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn about his bipartisan legislation with Connecticut Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, a long-time anti-gun advocate, to improve compliance with background checks.

The Fix NICS Act, filed after a mass shooting at a Texas church in November, was created to penalize government agencies that fail to report criminal records of prohibited buyers to NICS.

Ken Murphree said its going to all come down to what President Trump is going to do with the current system in place.

The White House said Trump will take part in a “listening session” Wednesday with high school student and teachers after 17 people were gunned down at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

Several students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and both of Florida’s USA senators, will be there. The shooter, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, who has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder, has reportedly received mental-health treatment in the past, Efe reported.

A number of Stoneman Douglas students and parents gave passionate speeches toward the President, offering up ideas on what can be done about guns in schools and gun control in the United States.

Trump is being called out for creating an illusion of executive action.

Rallying in solidarity, students staged walkouts from other high schools in Florida and elsewhere vowing to make the tragedy a turning point in America’s deadlocked debate on gun control. We need to come together as a country, not different parties, and figure out how we protect the schools. Several other groups organized similar protests.

“We don’t sell them, because we don’t allow them in our range”, said Barry Laws, co-owner of Openrange in Crestwood.

The legislation, however, does not address the broader, divisive issue of permissive gun laws under the Second Amendment of the US Constitution, which protects the right to bear arms.

“There needs to be significant change in this country, because this has to never happen again”, student Justin Gruber said.

When ATF began the process of considering a bump stock regulation in December, the proposal drew more than 35,000 comments from the public, far more than usual, which signals that likely either pro- or anti-gun control groups – or both – mobilized their membership and email lists to weigh in.

Many students took buses from Parkland to Tallahassee and were left stunned.

The GOP is also facing pressure from donors to ban military-style firearms.

While Trump backs bipartisan gun bill, there's no guarantee of action in Congress on guns
