Donald Trump quotes “Two Corinthians” in Liberty University speech

The real-estate mogul claimed he drew a record crowd to the event, an assertion that could not be confirmed. “So we will dedicate that to Martin Luther King – a great man. That’s a little bit of an achievement, I will tell you”. He blasted various worldwide accords struck by the Obama administration and budget deals made by Republican congressional leaders, and criticized the country’s “very stupid leadership”.

Trump, in a departure from recent days, didn’t take any direct jabs at Cruz, the GOP presidential contender who enjoys the backing of some of the evangelical movement’s most prominent leaders.

Mr Trump, whose invitation to speak at Liberty University in Virginia was opposed by some students, sought to burnish his religious credentials among conservatives who have been suspicious of him. Trump called this comparison “the best compliment of all”.

Trump says he is a faithful Presbyterian. We’re going to protect it. You know, and I ask Jerry, and I ask some of the folks because I hear that this is a major theme right here. But two Corinthians, right?

Trump mistakes Biblical reference at Liberty University, cites “Two Corinthians”: “That’s the whole ballgame”. Trump, he said, “cannot be bought-he is not a puppet on a string like many other candidates”. Minutes later he couldn’t resist calling Jeb Bush “a stiff”. “She told me of how her father was loving and generous in his personal relationships with others but he spoke the truth no matter how unpopular it was”, said Falwell.

“I have seen firsthand that his staff loves him and is loyal to him because of his servant leadership”. On if he embodies Liberty University’s Christian values, she said she thought he did “to a point”. Behind her, Megan Cooper, another Liberty student, shook her head and smiled nearly immediately.

But the most breathtaking part of Trump’s appearance may have come before he spoke. “I feel like that’s not something that Liberty upholds”.

“Trump stuck to his traditional pitch during the campaign speech, but also touted the bible and promised that, as president, people would be saying “‘Merry Christmas’ again”.
