The political response to that attack was nearly instantly contentious, as Republicans and Democrats debated whether the shooting argued for stricter gun laws or tougher anti-terror policies.

Donald Trump met with Sen.
Flake, who has called some of the businessman’s remarks in the past “boorish”, told Trump that “I want to talk to you about statements like that”, according to the report in the Washington Post, which was confirmed by Flake’s office.
Trump also met with former rival Ted Cruz in a private meeting, and, while the Texas Senator has not yet endorsed the presumptive nominee, he did get a slot to speak at the convention next week.
Trump also had words with Flake, another vocal critic of the GOP standard bearer.
But the Republican Party remains deeply divided ahead of the Cleveland gathering.
During the Republican presidential primary, Cruz finished second in the pledged delegate count, accumulating 559 before ending his campaign.
Montana Republicans have strong libertarian and populist streaks. On the third round of convention voting, Texas delegates can vote for any Republican. In recent years, philosophical differences have spawned power struggles between hardliners and moderates. So, Trump will leave Washington without a totally united party. Months ago, Rick Hill began expressing alarm over Trump’s candidacy.
“It was an important opportunity for our members to get additional information about Mr Trump’s campaign and ask questions about the issues that matter to Americans”, Ryan’s statement said. And obviously, I’m not going to vote for Hillary Clinton.
“I think they are trying to show the ridiculousness for the attack”, she said.
But even while Trump made peace with one of his former foes, he took on other lawmakers in meetings that turned combative at times.
“I think it was the normal stream of consciousness that’s long on hyperbole and short on facts”, Sanford said.
Cruz says there was no talk of any endorsement at this morning’s meeting with Trump.
Ivanka turns 35 at the end of October, which means she makes the age deadline by about seven or eight days, Eric said to the co-hosts.
“We have to deal with reality”.
Trump said he would defend articles “1, 2, 3 to 12”, said South Carolina Rep. Mark Sanford. Steve Daines and U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke, have now thrown their support behind Trump, but waited until the last minute to do so.
Overall, Trump’s message touched on “the things that are on people’s mind that I hear about when I travel around the state of Arkansas”, he added.
Disaffected Republicans do have choices, said Jeremy Johnson, a professor of political science at Carroll College. Among them are former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, 2012 nominee Mitt Romney and former presidential candidates Sen.
“Some voters not thrilled with the top of the ticket may skip voting altogether on Election Day, which of course affects everyone on the ticket”, the professor said.

Flake appeared to restrain himself from responding to Trump afterward.
