We’re halfway through the Republican National Convention, and with any semblance of doubt about who will be the standard-bearer for the GOP put to rest Tuesday night (Trump officially claimed the nomination in the roll call vote), the party turns its eyes to November.
“I ran as close as I could get, and I was yelling, ‘Endorse Trump, ‘” Wiegert said Thursday.
Cruz told the Texas delegation Thursday morning he won’t vote for Hillary Clinton, but isn’t promising a Trump endorsement either. He told supporters they have one mission now – to elect Trump president.
Some other Missouri delegates also were displeased. If Trump wins, Cruz may wind up on the wrong side of the president’s handsome new wall. He praised Heidi Cruz as attractive but said he was responding to Cruz supporters who used a risque photo of Trump’s wife Melania in a political ad. Trump also defended his actions with respect to Cruz’s father, Rafael.
Cruz said he will be “watching and listening” but won’t “sit down, shut up, support the team”.
Cruz “gave the most captivating speech of the entire week, and then it just turned (with) his phrase at the very end” about voting your conscience, Burlison said.
Washington delegate Marc Perez said reports of the confrontation “caused many of us, who already felt very upset over the blatant disrespect towards our exceptionally principled conservative candidate, Ted Cruz, to feel even more hurt”. “People that probably four years from now or eight years from now would have looked at him as being the next guy, he lost them”.

“To show up, it’s like going to your neighbor’s garden party so you can pour acid on the petunias”, added Gingrich, who was among the contenders for Trump’s VP. Wiegert says he also joined in the booing because he believes Cruz reneged on a pledge to support the Republican nominee. “Then when I saw somebody tweeted a picture of Melania and a picture of Heidi, who I think, by the way, is a very nice woman and a very lovely woman”.
