Donald Trump’s immigration comments spark fear for undocumented Irish

“The truth of the matter is, Donald Trump is laying out in that tweet – in short form; it is, what, 140 characters – that we have a choice to make as a country”, Pence said.

The magnate plans to give a speech detailing his immigration policy next week, something he has postponed several times in a moment of confusion over his apparent flip-flops on a subject that has won him the most electoral support up to now.

“My hope is that you can see in Trump his life experiences and sense the confidence of the American dream and in a man who is committed to making that dream come for any American” said Pence.

Christie also took a none too subtle swipe at former NY mayor Rudy Giuliani for telling a local outlet that Trump is softening his immigration stance after Christie’s recommendation. In the Monmouth poll, 85% of Democrats said they support Clinton, while 78% of Republicans said the same for Trump. The first week of airtime will cost about $10 million, a Trump campaign official said. The candidate himself added to the confusion this week, telling Fox News “there certainly could be a softening, because we’re not looking to hurt people”, before telling CNN the next day that he doesn’t “think it’s a softening.you know it’s a process”.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump greets the crowd after speaking at Joni’s Roast and Ride at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, in Des Moines, Iowa, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016. The United States of America has the same right to our sovereignty as any other country.

Trump’s position on whether or not to deport an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants has been unclear in recent days.

It’s been a long and sometimes puzzling journey to this point for Trump, who defeated 16 Republican opponents while promising to be the toughest on illegal immigration. William Cutshaw said that he has stood with Trump from the beginning.

“There is a very good chance the answer could be yes”, Trump said when asked if he would deport those who have lived here peacefully but without papers. “We’re going to enforce the laws of this country, end sanctuary cities, implement E-Verify”. Pence also did not answer whether the campaign believes, as Trump has said, that children born to people who are in the USA illegally are not US citizens. When questioned about the over-the-top language he used in the letter, Bornstein said, “I think I picked up [Trump’s] kind of language and then just interpreted it to my own”.

“He did simplify it”.

The tweet was referring to the late Robert Byrd, a United States senator from West Virginia and one of the longest serving USA senators in history. They insisted that Trump has been “consistent” on his immigration policy.

“That’s really the question here, John”, Conway said, leaving it unanswered.

He also suggested Trump will announce a more well-defined policy soon.

Tapper pressed Pence Sunday on whether the GOP ticket believes those children are citizens. He also set off a firestorm during the week by describing Clinton as a “bigot” who only sees people of colour “as votes not as human beings worthy of a better future”.
