Donald Trump’s shifting positions on Muslim ban

The Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign issued a wake-up call fundraising appeal on Friday, addressing the new possibility and writing: “No matter what the collective wisdom of our political punditry has to say between now and November, Donald Trump has a real chance of winning this election”.

The ad, which a Clinton aide said would debut this week on cable stations nationally, juxtaposes footage of news coverage of the vote’s negative impact on global markets with Trump telling reporters in Scotland that a drop in the value of the British pound could help him make money at his Trump Turnberry resort.

U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump chats with the watching media aboard a golf cart with granddaughter Kai after he arrived at the Trump International Golf Links at Balmedie, near Aberdeen, Scotland, Saturday June 25, 2016.

He posted a picture of what he could see from outside – a home belonging to one of the golf course’s neighbors who was flying a Mexican flag to express disapproval of the presumptive GOP nominee.

“When the pound goes down, more people are coming to Turnberry, frankly”, he said.

When asked if he had tweaked his policy for Muslim’s coming from Scotland, said “it wouldn’t bother me”.

“No games!” Scotland had overwhelmingly voted to remain in the European Union in the referendum.

On whether he was speaking with his foreign policy advisers about the historic British vote, Trump said, “I speak to foreign policy advisers all the time”. They don’t necessarily want people pouring into their country that they don’t know who they are and where they come from’. And on the 18th, when asked if he had more or fewer candidates on his vice-presidential short list than the par of the hole (a five), Trump allowed, “I’m getting calls from a lot of people, and they want it”.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll showed a 12 percentage point lead for the Democrat, her largest advantage since last fall and a dramatic improvement over last month, when the poll showed her statistically tied with Trump.

“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on”, a campaign press release said.

Trump even indicated that the ban is not ironclad, telling CNN in a brief interview on Saturday he would consider allowing Muslims from states with heavy terrorist activity to enter the US, as long as they are “vetted strongly”.

However Trump’s presence in Scotland has not always been met with enthusiasm, with protesters saying he has “ramped up levels of racism, Islamophobia, and bigotry” during his bid for the White House.

“Texas will never do that”, Trump told reporters.
