Donald Trump’s tax returns: Why won’t he release them?

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speaks at a presidential candidates “Commander-in-Chief” forum, moderated by Matt Lauer aboard the decommissioned aircraft carrier “Intrepid” in New York, New York, on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The first-time political candidate didn’t put a price tag on his plan.

The former secretary of state also repeated “it was a mistake” to have used a personal email account while leading the department, and that she would “certainly not do it again”.

“I am proposing a new foreign policy focused on advancing America’s core national interests, promoting regional stability, and producing an easing of tensions in the world”, he said.

She talked about classification “headers” and explained that there was “no evidence” her server had been hacked. She said she communicated classified information “on a wholly separate system” and that nothing that moved through her private e-mail had header markings to indicate highly sensitive material.

“I have said that my voting to give President Bush that authority was, from my perspective, my mistake”, she said. “Always have, always will”. “It was something that should not have been done”, Clinton said.

That’s the rhetorical equivalent of rear-guard action that ends with your army pushed into the sea.

The former senator again said her vote authorizing the 2003 USA invasion of Iraq was a mistake. Another 3 percent said they would support someone else and 1 percent said they probably would not vote. On Wednesday night, they got the chance to make their case during their first joint event: the Commander-in-Chief Forum.

“Sometimes it seemed like there wasn’t a country in the Middle East that Hillary Clinton didn’t want to invade, intervene in, or topple”, the Republican nominee said. According to notes released from Clinton’s interview with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, she said she relied on others with knowledge about handling classified files.

“We did not lose a single American in that action”.

“Unlike my opponent, my foreign policy will emphasize diplomacy, not destruction”, Mr. Trump said, adding that Mrs. Clinton’s legacy is “only turmoil and suffering and death”.

In fact, that’s already started. “I thank each of them for their service and their confidence in me to serve as commander-in-chief”.

Questioned by Lauer, Trump defended his kind words about Russian President Vladimir Putin. He sure did, however.

Trump levied unusual criticism against America’s military leaders, saying the generals have been “reduced to rubble” during President Barack Obama’s administration. He added that when Mr Putin called him brilliant, “I’ll take the compliment, OK?”

His 55 to 36 per cent lead with the group comes despite recent remarks against the parents of a Muslim-American soldier killed in Iraq, members of the so-called Gold Star families who have lost loved ones in military service. It’s the best way for voters to get a look at who these people are.

“It is a great honor to have such unbelievable support from so many distinguished retired military leaders”, said Trump in a statement.

A few minutes later came the killer follow-up.

“As soon as I take office, I will ask Congress to fully eliminate the defense sequester and will submit a new budget to rebuild our military”, Mr. Trump said.

As for Trump’s attacks, Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri said the Republican candidate is reduced to “taunts and insults” because he can not otherwise defend his own record.
