Donald Trump’s tax returns will stay secret, Eric Trump says

His comment came after Trump’s new campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, reversed her position that Trump should release his tax returns. Now, Trump is facing even more scrutiny, as his informal adviser and friend, political consultant Roger Stone, has joined in calls for the tax returns to be released.

A Tea Party Congressman has joined other lawmakers in calling on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to release his tax returns and medical records.

Eric Trump said on Wednesday that there is “no tax attorney in the world who will tell you to release your tax returns while you’re under a standard routine audit”.

Earlier this month, Clinton released her latest federal income tax return as part of an effort to put additional pressure on Trump. Moreover, there is nothing stopping Trump from releasing previous returns for years not now under audit. “If you released his tax returns, you would clearly see that.’ I’m sitting there, are you guys kidding me?” he said.

“The additional audit hassle is nothing compared to the extraordinary burdens he would carry as president”, Goldberg argued. He can and should immediately release the first two pages of his Form 1040, along with his Schedule A, for the past 20 years. The returns could also provide a lot of information about how much money Trump makes overseas and offer a sense of how he might approach foreign policy decisions if he were elected.

Releasing this information would have no impact on any pending or future IRS audit of Trump.

Trump told CNBC that not much can be learned from a tax return, instead suggesting there is more to learn from looking at someone’s assets. “While painting a far from complete portrait, it would answer a few of the questions that Trump himself has raised during the campaign”, Goldberg stated.

There is, however, a first step that Trump has no excuse for not taking. He can and should share that information with no audit risk whatsoever.
