Former President Jimmy Carter surprised reporters in London Wednesday by saying he would choose Donald Trump over Ted Cruz to win the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, “which may surprise some of you”.
Cruz’s campaign then circulated an email to supporters that said, “The press is reporting that Dr. Ben Carson is taking time off from the campaign trail after Iowa and making a big announcement next week”.
The accusations, interpreted by critics as an attempt to hog the media spotlight, come in stark contrast to his gracious concession speech in Iowa on Monday, saying he was “honored” to finish second. Florida senator Marco Rubio also had a strong night, snapping at Trump’s heels and running a close third.
Political analysts in New Hampshire say they need to finish in the top four to justify continuing their campaigns into SC.
He confirmed that he thinks Cruz’s tactics affected his caucus results in Iowa. pointing out that he got a lot of “intelligence” on the ground that suggested that he would do better than expected.
Trump had been leading almost all polls in the Hawkeye State, heading into the first-in-the-nation voting contest.
“Let’s give it a shot.’ They said, ‘Don’t do it.’ I said, ‘I have to do it.’ And, we finished second, and I want to tell you something, I’m just honored, I’m really honored”, Trump said.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump waves after speaking at his caucus night rally in Iowa.
Cruz, who inflicted a stunning defeat in the Iowa Caucus on Monday, is a distant second with 14 per cent, followed by the rising star Marco Rubio with 12 per cent. Many people advised me that I should not even go to Iowa, as I had no chance there.

Cruz has tried to paint Trump as liberal masquerading as a conservative, because he previously called himself “pro-choice” on all aspect related to abortion. I said because there’s another room this size where it’s packed also, ” Trump said in Milford. “And I think we’re going to be proclaiming victory, I hope”, he said.
