Donald Trump says he’s narrowed VP shortlist

His two remaining Republican rivals suddenly dropped out of the race last week, anointing him the party’s presumptive presidential nominee faster than even the confident candidate expected. “I certainly don’t agree with how (Trump) talks about about Hispanics, or women or minority voters. I met him once in 2012, we had a very good conversation in March on the phone”, Ryan told reporters Wednesday. He will meet with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee on Thursday.

Trump, who threatened to oppose the House GOP election-year policy agenda after Ryan said he was not prepared to endorse the NY businessman, has praised Ryan in recent interviews, and said he’s looking forward to the meeting.

And unlike House Speaker Paul Ryan – who said he is not yet ready to support Trump – McConnell has been actively trying to get his members in line with the real estate magnate.

That’s even as Ryan, the nation’s top elected Republican, refuses to endorse Trump.

“Well it sure doesn’t make it look like we’re all on the same page, does it?”

In a Facebook post Thursday, Palin said that Trump should not cede “any victorious ground to the losers who got us into the mess we’re in”.

But, Pelosi said, “I think what she proposed is responsible”.

Former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush say they won’t attend the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this summer. Noting that he would continue self-funding his campaign, Trump said he would raise the money for the rest of the general elections so that the party can retain its majority in both the House and the Senate.

Trump says said he’s prioritizing political experience, because he wants a vice president to help him “with legislation, getting things through” Washington if he wins the White House.

Sen. Mike Rounds, a South Dakota Republican, said Tuesday that if Trump wanted to unify the party, he could start by apologizing to McCain for questioning his service in Vietnam. “It’s easier to say that than to explain what would happen if you didn’t”, Rubio said, alluding to Trump’s views on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

“We have at least 11 million people in this country that came in illegally, they will go out”, Trump said during a CNN Telemundo town hall in February.

McConnell told reporters this week that Trump could be “competitive” in the fall, a show of support from the party leader.

Ryan says at a news conference after the meeting that the big question is “what do we need to do to unify the party”. We understand that. Watching him steamroll his opponents with combination of soul-piercing insults, unbridled machismo and vague, if not freaky, policy prescriptions has been like watching a mile-long train of oil tankers derail in slow motion: you know something volatile and risky is happening but are powerless to stop it, or find who someone who can. “Now I have a choice between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton”.

Trump’s bare-bones campaign has glaring deficiencies the RNC is uniquely positioned to address.

One study estimated that news media coverage of Trump, who is arguably more available to TV news media interviews than any major candidate in history, has been worth about billion in equivalent advertising.

Trump plans a separate meeting with Senate GOP leaders later Thursday.

In an interview at a Main Street cafe just across from Ryan’s Janesville office, Westphal said she thought Ryan was handling the situation “the best he can”. “I firmly believe a Trump Administration will be filled with Republicans who share my conservative values to defend our Constitution and to accurately represent the voice of the American people”. “I stand with our Republican nominee and I’ve said that all along”.

Before the meeting, Ryan insisted party unity was his goal.
