Donald Trump Signals ‘Softening’ of Immigration Position
But Trump’s public deliberation about deportations could be the latest signal that as the general campaign heats up, he is moving away from one of his divisive, signature proposals from the Republican primary in order to broaden his base of support.

Donald Trump’s campaign manager is contrasting the Republican presidential nominee’s immigration stance with that of former primary rival Marco Rubio.
One of the mothers, who did not say her name, pointed to the need to deport undocumented immigrants, regardless of whether they are criminals – the very policy Trump appears to be rethinking. “We have some great, great people in this country”, Trump said.
“On trade, they’re absolutely killing us, they’re killing us”, Trump told Hannity. People will not come into out country illegally.
“They’ll pay back taxes, they’ll have to pay taxes”.
The idea of deporting over 11 million people is ludicrous. “Trump, I love you, but to take a person who’s been here for 15 or 20 years and throw them and their family out, it’s so tough, Mr. Trump, ‘” Trump said.
It was a dramatic shift for the Republican presidential nominee, whose vow to crack down on illegal immigration has been a pillar of his candidacy. He knows that as president he needs to maintain the discretion to deport anyone in that group, which is a very dramatic departure from the Obama position of doing everything he can to avoid enforcing the law at all.
“He’s still going to build the wall”.
The Hillary Campaign was quick to slam Trump for his remarks on illegal immigration. Trump’s new rhetoric doesn’t just sound like Bush’s; the path to legalization was also part of John Kasich’s platform and something Marco Rubio tried to get passed in the Senate. No one can change his hateful rhetoric or risky policies to send a deportation force into American communities, rescind DACA and DAPA, end birthright citizenship, and even ban remittances to families in Mexico in order to help build his giant wall.
In an interview published Saturday, Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence, argued the candidate’s variation on this issue is “a classic CEO process” of developing an effective plan with a diversity of input.
The Trump campaign tripled its rented space even though it has maintained only about 70 people on payroll, as well as a few dozen consultants, for the past several months.
“I think he’s saying the law needs to be looked at”, said Barbara Thomas, a Trump supporter from the Austin area.
Asked if he believed Clinton personally hated black people, Trump claimed: “Her policies are bigoted because she knows they’re not going to work”.
“Donald Trump has pounded that drum for a year and a half, and so I’m starting to see him restore the foundation again”.
“Her policies are bigoted”. I’d say to both of them, back down.

“I am going to fight to give every Hispanic citizen a much better future, a much better life”, Trump told a crowd in Tampa as polls show him trailing in the critical state.
