Donald Trump’s history of using, and many would argue abusing, eminent domain in his business life has surfaced time and again on the campaign trail, with Saturday night’s GOP debate as no exception. Marco Rubio, according to one poll – hit a rough patch early on with a question about eminent domain, ultimately trading barbs with contender Jeb Bush that brought about loud boos from the audience.

After Trump defended the general concept of eminent domain as a “necessity” for government, Bush jumped in with a specific critique of the developer’s record on the topic.

Without the occasional government seizure of private property for the public good, “you wouldn’t have roads, you wouldn’t have hospitals, you wouldn’t have anything”, insisted Trump, “you wouldn’t have schools, or bridges”.

When co-moderator Josh McElveen of WMUR-TV tried to interrupt, Trump said, “excuse me”.

Trump also challenged Bush’s logic that eminent domain shouldn’t be used for privately-owned infrastructure.

Jeb Bush attempts to inturrupt Donald Trump with a follow-up eminent domain attack. “That is not public objective”. “That is downright wrong”.

“Let me talk”, Trump responded putting his finger to his lips.

At this the audience erupted into booing of Trump as he was trying to make his point.

“I don’t think a president would have ever shouted profanities in a speech in front of thousands of people with kids in the crowd”, Jeb Bush said.

After a heated back-and-forth – in which Trump jabbed that Bush “wants to be a tough guy” – Trump attempted to retake control of the conversation, only to encounter boos from the audience. And the simple fact is to turn this into a limousine parking lot for his casinos is a not public use.

Trump countered, “Let me talk”.

“You know what gives me confidence?” “And by the way, we needed tickets, you can’t get them”.

“That’s all of his donors and special interests out there. I don’t need their money”, Trump said. “The reason they’re not loving me is, I don’t want their money”, Donald continued. “I don’t want their money, I don’t need their money”. Trump said audience members were all members of the Republican establishment.
