Donald Trump surges to lead after GOP convention
Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus defended Donald Trump’s decision to revisit a discredited conspiracy theory about Sen.

“Americans aren’t just choosing a president, we are also choosing a commander-in-chief, the person who decides questions of war and peace, life and death”. Depending on the poll, the lead is fueled by an increased margin among independents and further consolidation of Republican voters. The real-estate mogul’s edge is thanks largely to increased support among independents, CNN said, with 43% of independents saying the Republican convention made them more likely to back him. Still, 41% were not persuaded. That’s a much smaller support level for the real estate mogul than among men over 65, where 53 percent of them said they will cast their vote for Trump.
The poll also reflected a sharpening of the education divide among whites that had been prevalent throughout the campaign. Worth noting, the Morning Consult Poll, which more closely mirrors the aggregate data, explains “much of the shift can be attributed to a consolidation of the base among Republicans”. And she may need to rely on people like Reed Benet, a Republican businessman from MI, who says he’s not happy with Trump and might vote for the Democrat.
The Democrats begin their convention in Philadelphia on Monday, but the event has already been engulfed with controversy after it emerged that party officials had plotted against Bernie Sanders.
The first major poll conducted after the first of two conventions was released Saturday afternoon. Good news for Trump and bad news for Clinton. For Clinton, it’s 44 percent. On whether he’s prepared for the presidency, 38 percent say yes, 38 percent believe he is honest, 34 percent say he has the right temperament and personality to be president. 22% say their views are unchanged.
The convention added a big boost for Donald Trump and has taken a 5-point lead over Hillary and gained six points. Democrats have spent this week trying to make Hillary, or at least a vote for her, more palatable.
Clinton’s answer has been to cast herself as an apostle of both continuity and change – continuity for parts of the Obama legacy that are popular (economic recovery, some aspects of Obamacare) and tweaks for parts that haven’t worked as well (middle incomes, other aspects of Obamacare and gridlock in Congress). So it’s perhaps not surprising to see Clinton’s numbers take a hit.
“If you want somebody who will scapegoat other people, peddle fear, and smear, I am not your candidate”, she said.

The network said there had not been a significant post-convention bounce in since 2000. However, there are always certain data sets I’m watching for that give me a better understanding of the fundamentals in an election season.
