Donald Trump sweeps Northeast GOP primaries; Hillary Clinton wins 3 states

Clinton, meanwhile, is now 90 percent of the way to her party’s nomination after four solid victories of her own.

The five northeastern states that held primaries on Tuesday in the Democratic and Republican parties were Pennsylvania, Maryland, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Delaware.

The billionaire businessman also did well with those most concerned about the state of the USA economy, and he bested Cruz and Kasich with voters who want the next president to tell it like it is or bring needed change to the country.

And Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich forged a shaky alliance that has already showed signs of strain, with Kasich agreeing to abandon Indiana’s May 3 vote while Cruz said he’ll cede OR and New Mexico.

“I’ve got good news for you tonight, this campaign moves back to more favorable terrain”, Cruz told a crowd in Indiana.

About 6 in 10 Republican voters in Pennsylvania also say the GOP campaign this year has divided the party.

Clinton, already in control of the Democratic race, defeated challenger Bernie Sanders in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and CT.

“If you are a Democrat, an independent or a thoughtful Republican, you know that their approach is not going to build an America where we increase opportunity or decrease inequality”, Mrs Clinton said of the GOP candidates.

Before Tuesday results, Devine said that the Sanders campaign has a “path forward to the nomination that would allow us to win more pledged delegates than Hillary Clinton“. Her only loss of the night was to Sanders in Rhode Island.

National polls have us ahead of Donald Trump, far more than Secretary Clinton. Sanders has virtually no path to the nomination but promises to stay in the campaign through the national convention to help set the party policy agenda. Network executives, are they Democrats or Republicans?

In the Republican race, Cruz and Kasich are desperately trying to force a convention fight. They will both nearly certainly get thumped by Donald Trump in every one of those states, particularly the one that matters most-the big prize that is Pennsylvania, where the Joe Paterno-loving Trump is positioned to do very well.

Trump also won the GOP primaries in DE and Rhode Island, two states where exit polls were not conducted.

Sanders said he plans to reassess his candidacy on Wednesday and decide whether to adjust his strategy if Clinton’s delegate lead appears all but insurmountable.

Trump claimed on Tuesday that Clinton would only have 5 percent of the vote if she were a man.

Mrs Clinton now has 2,141 delegates while Mr Sanders has 1,321.

Trump’s political strength was on display with a clean sweep of races in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

For the night, Clinton won at least 204 delegates to Sanders’ 146.

In a town hall on MSNBC on Monday night, Clinton questioned the idea that she would need to adopt parts of Sanders’ platform to win over his supporters, saying that she did not make demands when she lost the primary to President Barack Obama eight years ago.
