Donald Trump to annnounce Mike Pence as vice-presidential running mate
The other leading contenders for the Republican running mate are New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

“Trump has staked his candidacy on revolutionary change in Washington and there is no one being considered who has actually achieved revolutionary change like Newt Gingrich”, said Rick Tyler, a former spokesman for Gingrich.
In addition, U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions, 69, of Alabama, a fourth potential candidate for the No. 2 spot who has been a close adviser to Trump, was seen going into the Conrad Hotel in Indianapolis, where Trump was.
With Trump expected to make a decision about his running mate by Friday, the whirlwind of activity provided plenty of political tea leaves for analysts to try to decipher. Inf fact, this person said, having him as a more temperate running mate could prompt Trump to become even more bombastic.
Trump posted on Twitter Wednesday evening that he would reveal his choice at 11 a.m. Friday in Manhattan.
“And that is why I believe Donald Trump is so unsafe”, Clinton said today during a speech at the historic Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois.
Trump’s motorcade left at about 10:30 a.m. without any statement about the vice presidential search.
Gingrich packs the political punch that Trump lacks.
Trump told The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday he is looking for a “fighter skilled in hand-to-hand combat” as his second-in-command, but hadn’t seen enough of Pence to measure his fight.
“I’m here more to listen than to talk”, Pence said.
Adding intrigue to the day, Pence’s deputy campaign manager, Marc Lotter, was spotted at Indianapolis airport Thursday waiting to board a flight to New York City.
“Trump’s pick might be more consequential because it would be his first governance decision – his vice-presidential selection will be evaluated through the lens of governance”, said Republican pollster Whit Ayres.
Gingrich, who has been active on the social media venue, hosted a Facebook Live event with Trump earlier this month.
“I mean I’m at three, potentially four [choices]”.
Trump said a breakfast Wednesday with Pence and the Trump family “went really well”. They were joined by Trump’s three adult children, as well as Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and campaign chair Paul Manafort.
At Tuesday night’s rally with Pence, Trump said: ‘I don’t know whether he’s going to be your governor or your vice president.
Newt Gingrich says he expects to hear from Donald Trump about his vice presidential decision as early as Thursday afternoon.
The day also carried the lure of intrigue: Trump initially was expected to depart IN on Wednesday, hours after Pence had a well-received audition for the running-mate role at a raucous Trump rally IN Westfield.
“The Trump Campaign was not in existence prior to or at the time of the agreement, and Mr. Nunberg did not agree or intend that it apply to any future entity such as the Trump Campaign”, Nunberg’s complaint said.
Pence and Gingrich would be welcome picks among anxious Republican officials already gathering in Cleveland for next week’s convention. He appeared to have made progress by Tuesday, when he told Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly that he had “a pretty good idea” of his pick.
A source close to Pence told CNN’s MJ Lee that when asked about the vice presidential race it “sure feels like Pence”. Gingrich said he believed that they were largely out of the running.

According to another source familiar with the process, Christie is interested in the vice president job but not “campaigning for it”.
