Donald Trump to meet Kim Jong-un in Singapore on 12 June
But Singapore was favoured by most of his advisers.

In a groundwork for the meeting between the two former arch-enemies over North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme, three U.S. citizens were on Wednesday released by North Korea and received on Thursday at Washington DC by Trump.
The ultramodern city-state has a robust security infrastructure and is widely considered one of the safest cities in Asia.
Situated between the much larger Muslim-majority nations of Indonesia and Malaysia, Singapore has always been vigilant toward radical Islamic elements.
On May 9, Trump announces the three men are headed to the United States, personally welcoming them to Washington, offering effusive thanks to Kim and heralding a diplomatic victory.
It considers the US a close partner, while North Korea maintains a fully functioning embassy in the city-state.
The U.S. will likely seek “unlimited” inspections of the North’s nuclear arms inventory and facilities, but Pyongyang will try to allow the monitoring or supervision of its work to “freeze or shut down” nuclear activities, he added.
North Korea’s state companies have, in the past, conducted legal and illegal business dealings with Singapore companies.
The tweeted announcement capped weeks of negotiations that began when Trump announced March 8 he had accepted Kim’s invitation as delivered by South Korea government officials.
The ministry then said the North Korean-run restaurants overseas were suffering economically because of strengthened sanctions and that the workers who escaped said they were struggling to meet demands from North Korean authorities that they earn foreign currency.
Smiling and holding hands, Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in held a rare round of talks at the heavily fortified demilitarized zone between the countries at the end of April, pledging to pursue peace after decades of conflict.
Defense Secretary Jim Mattis also said, “There is reason for some optimism that these talks could be fruitful”.
Trump has marked the men’s arrival as a major milestone ahead of his upcoming historic summit with Kim. “The last few steps for him to be released seem to be going a lot slower than maybe the first year or the whole year”, said Sol Kim.
It also has experience hosting other leadership gatherings such as the annual summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and stages the yearly Shangri-La Dialogue, a defence forum attended by heads of state, defence ministers and top military chiefs.

Technically the United States and North Korea are still at war – a stop-gap armistice ended the brutal three year war between the two countries in 1953 and around 30,000 USA troops remain in neighboring South Korea.
