Donald Trump turns Putin truther: ‘Nobody has proven that he killed anybody’
Donald Trump’s praise for and subsequent defence of Russian President Vladimir Putin has earned him the reproach of his fellow Republicans. “I’ll accept that, and I’ll accept it on behalf of our country”, he said on ABC’s This Week. “I don’t know that he has”, said the billionaire businessman.

Trump conceded that if the allegations were true, he would “think that that’s awful”, but added, “this isn’t like somebody that stood with the gun and taken the blame or admitted that he’s killed”.
On Friday, Trump had equated Putin’s killings with the United States, saying on MSNBC that “our country does plenty of killing also”.
Mr. Trump described Mr. Putin as “a man highly respected within his own country and beyond” after the Russian president called him a “brilliant and talented person”.
In a heated interview on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, Trump said: “In all fairness to Putin, you’re saying he killed people”.
“That’s not killing by the United States government though”.
Putin has denied allegations by independent observers and media that Russian regular troops are taking part in the conflict.
“As far as the reporters are concerned obviously, I don’t want that to happen. Shirley and I have been praying for a leader such as this”, he added, referring to his wife.
Real-estate mogul Donald Trump repeatedly joked during a pre-Christmas rally that he would “never kill” reporters, even though he detests them.
An ex-KGB agent and former head of Russia’s federal security service, Putin first took over the role of prime minister in 1999 and has held that title and president at various times over the past 16 years. “If he has killed reporters, that’s bad…”
Trump then challenged reporters to come up with hard evidence that the Kremlin, under Putin’s rule, has ever been involved with an assassination attempt on a journalist.
That comment was enough to draw a rebuke from Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, who tweeted: “Important distinction: thug Putin kills journalists and opponents; our presidents kill terrorists and enemy combatants”.
Trump has also repeatedly praised Putin’s toughness and dislike for Obama on the campaign trail. Trump has recently been defending some of the actions of the Russian leader.
“He’s running his country, and at least he’s a leader, you know, unlike what we have in this country”, Trump said.

Trump welcomed Putin’s praise, citing it as proof that a Trump administration would be able to work well with the Russians.
