Trump isn’t just wrestling with his own competing impulses as he looks to make his pick.

Mainstream American media speculated that Trump has shortlisted his running mate to a few.

Credibility counterweight While the choice of candidate for an office once described as “not worth a bucket of warm piss” is regularly dismissed as irrelevant in the presidential race, this year’s Republican choice carries more gravity as a credibility counterweight to Trump’s high negative ratings, flair for the unpredictable and status as an untested outsider.

Gingrich praised Trump for running a “very fair, open process” and said he looked forward to the businessman’s decision.

Pence was pressed Wednesday, as he has been recently, on whether he agrees with the specifics of Trump’s plan – building the wall on the Mexican border, for example.

“I don’t know if he’s going to be your governor or your vice president”, Trump told the rally.

While Trump kept his cards close, he spoke playfully of Pence at the rally: “I dont know whether hes going to be your governor or your vice president.”. The Indiana governor has credibility with social conservatives who are among the most suspicious of Republican Party constituencies towards Trump in the GOP.

A mechanical issue with Trump’s plane after a Tuesday night rally in Westfield resulted in an unexpected overnight stay in Indianapolis, followed by a family meeting with the governor and first lady Karen Pence at the governor’s residence Wednesday morning.

“I apologize for all the fuss”, Pence told farmers gathered at the Delaware County Fairgrounds Wednesday afternoon.

We’ll find out if Donald Trump thinks so on Friday. A Trump adviser described the breakfast between Trump and the Indiana Governor as “cordial” but added that the billionaire had yet to finalize his decision on a running mate.

“I’m not a journalist, I’m a talk show host”, he has said. FILE – In this May 11, 2016, file photo, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence launches his campaign for re-election during an event in Indianapolis.

A Republican familiar with Pence’s thinking said the paperwork has been drawn up for him to take that step.

As Christie gave an interview to MSNBC contributor Nicole Wallace from his home in Mendham, one of his mentors and closest allies through his career, David Samson, was in a federal courtroom in Newark, where he was expected to plead guilty to a federal charge likely related to the fallout from the George Washington Bridge lane-closure scandal.

The Republican National Convention begins Monday in Cleveland. If points are awarded for getting on the “Trump Train” early, Christie will benefit.

I mean, I’m at three, potentially four, ‘ Trump said.

Trump even reached out again to Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state under former President George W. Bush, after a donor encouraged him to make the call over the weekend – even though Rice has made clear she doesn’t want the job.
