Phone volunteers Deborah Bennett of Thornville, Ohio, left, and Charlyn Rusk of Johnstown, Ohio, talk about a call list at the Ohio Together Hillary Clinton campaign office in Newark, Ohio, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016. Four years ago, Romney enjoyed a surge of support in absentee and early voting in the wake of his first debate performance but Obama enjoyed a more steady stream of pre-election day support with his robust turnout machine. Two months from Election Day, Hillary Clinton holds a clear advantage over Donald Trump in almost every measure traditionally used to gauge success in presidential races.

She’s raising huge sums of money and flooding airwaves with television advertisements. Clinton also has multiple paths to the 270 electoral votes needed to win in November – so many that she could lose OH and Florida and still become America’s first female president.

Hillary Clinton has lied to the American people so frequently that multiple polls now show that nearly 7 in 10 of our fellow citizens say she is not honest or trustworthy, while only 11 percent say she is, according to an NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll.

Her saving grace during the campaign has been Trump’s high negative ratings, untrustworthiness and penchant for saying provocative things that have turned off many voters. The Democratic nominee plans to arrive in the city for a Labor Day festival with union leaders and workers.

For Trump supporters, Resch said the Trump campaign’s recent efforts in MI to bolster campaign staff is “better late than never”, but also noted that Trump has tapped into voter sentiments that many political professionals are still trying to better understand and shouldn’t be underestimated. “He’s got to sustain this for another couple weeks”.

Trump visited a predominantly black church in Detroit on Saturday in a rare appearance with minority voters, aiming to counter Clinton’s argument to moderate and suburban voters that he has allowed a racist fringe to influence his candidacy.

If Trump can reshape the race, he’ll need to do so quickly. North Carolinians can start submitting absentee ballots Friday.

As Ohio’s elections chief, Husted is barred from formally endorsing a candidate for president.

Both campaigns expect enormous audiences for the debates.

“They know where their voters are, and they know what states they need to turn out”, Resch said. Here’s a little secret: There is no “new” or “other” Trump; there is just this Trump, take him or leave him.

Trump’s numbers, then, are below the previous six Republicans to run for president.

Republicans do not want to be blamed for prematurely giving up on Donald Trump, the party’s presidential nominee, for fear of alienating his supporters.

Trump advisers vigorously dispute that the race has slipped from their grasp. “So, I don’t think that the helter-skelter of a political campaign tells you too much about her capacity to govern effectively with the strong support of the American people”, Sullivan said.

About 54 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning possible voters now say that Trump isn’t the best option in this year’s pool of candidates, while 35 percent say they are happy with the political outsider as the Republican presidential nominee.

By the end of August, however, any significant distance between Clinton and Trump has begun to steadily narrow. Only around 30 percent think that Hillary is the best option.

Clinton’s experience as secretary of state and her handle on domestic policy make her the favorite in three presidential debates beginning later this month. While Trump was in Louisiana, Clinton was at Martha’s Vineyard with President Obama.

Tim Kaine is making Labor Day personal as he campaigns alongside Vice President Joe Biden, the man he hopes to replace in the White House.

Trump spoke at the American Legion’s national convention in Cincinnati a day after Clinton addressed the group, and he also had a rally in Wilmington, in southwest OH, where he hammered the former secretary of State over her use of private emails and her family’s foundation.
