Donaldson, Gibbons brush off spat in Blue Jays’ dugout
During the course of the Blue Jays’ Wednesday triumph over the Yankees (TOR 7, NYY 4), reigning AL MVP Josh Donaldson struck out, hurled his implement upon returning to the bench, and exchanged possible naughty words with Sheriff of Dugout County John Gibbons.

It’s likely Gibbons took exception with Donaldson because his bat could have shattered and hurt somebody nearby. The two got into a heated exchange, prompting Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Thole to step in and separate the two.
The Blue Jays had plenty to smile about Wednesday when J.A. Happ pitched 7 1/3 innings to become the first 17-game victor in the major leagues and the bats produced another big offensive day during a 7-4 win over the New York Yankees.
Donaldson would later leave the game with a jammed thumb.
Donaldson, when asked about it by reporters, said Gibbons was inquiring about his cologne.
Donaldson, still upset about the whole striking out deal, went back and forth with Gibbons before a trio of teammates separated the two.
“I said ‘It’s this new cologne called Tom Ford”. He was like really.’ So he kind of got pretty close to me and I guess got a good whiff of it. “Gibby asked me what kind of cologne I was wearing”. “We were just discussing the game”. I was like, ‘Hey man back up. That didn’t work. He chose to break it. Gibbons was right about the bat, though.

X-rays were negative and the slugger is day to day, according to Gibbons, who said Donaldson had a similar injury earlier this season and it didn’t last long.
