In Kent County, trees will be collected for customers in trash districts that have yard waste collection service. Then the trees are netted and prepared for transport where they will be transferred to a stand, soon to be decorated with lights, ornaments and shiny tinsel. Do not place trees inside bags, trash carts or dumpsters.
Wreaths are not acceptable for recycling because they contain wire.
The Municipality of San José started collecting trees on Monday and opened four recycling centers that will be open until January 10. New Yorkers participating in Mulchfest will be able to take home a bag of mulch and know that the rest of their tree will be used to nourish city parks.
On top of Calgary’s three landfill locations, Christmas trees can be dropped off at 13 other locations for recycling. They begin accepting trees on December 26 and will conclude on January 15.
Participants are asked to remove decorations from the trees, which will be submerged as fish habitat in local lakes.
Residents in Round Rock, Cedar Park and Leander can leave their tree ready for pick up at their curb on trash days. The pickup will be scheduled on a Saturday collection route on January 14, Jan. 28 or February 4. The center will be closed on Sat., Dec. 31 and Mon, Jan. 2, 2017.
The hours are from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m.
