“They have their own pantry and there’s food banks that get replenished through Salvation Army”. I have to express the gratitude we have for the volunteers at the food bank.

The food collected at the Hy-Vee grocery on Ward Road and on Missouri 291 also is going to Social Services.
So, each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations from our customers. These donations go directly to local food pantries to provide food to people in need, and there are many in New Haven County and surrounding towns who need help. “We are grateful for the continued efforts they make toward creating awareness and supporting our hunger relief efforts”.
“This event is really simple”, USPS Communications Director Tad Kelley said.
In 2015, the drive collected more than 71 million pounds of food nationally, including almost 600,000 pounds of food donated to help those in need in Middle Tennessee.
Saturday will be the community’s opportunity to help Stamp Out Hunger by leaving a sack of non-perishable foods at the mailbox to be picked up when the mailman makes his delivery.
If you forget to put out food donations on May 14, you can still leave by the mailbox the following Monday. He said six out of 10 letter carriers are NALC members.
Stamp Out Hunger is the opportune time for the public to help those at risk of hunger. “It’s not for chronic hunger, it’s for those folks (who) are in crisis that need food today so they can get through their current situation”.
Organizers hope to collect 175,000 pounds of food in southwest Idaho this year.
