Filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa will be entering the DC Extended Universe. After the critically panned Batman v Superman, all eyes will be on future DC installments-including ensemble projects like Justice League: Part One and solo films like Aquaman. Following Seth Grahame-Smith’s departure in April, Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa is now in negotiations to direct Ezra Miller in the DC superhero film. Hiring a well-liked veteran like Famuyiwa to direct The Flash certainly feels like a step in the right direction.

A few weeks ago it was reported that The Flash feature film lost its director, Seth Grahame-Smith. Grahame-Smith adapted that from a story by The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who were once attached to direct The Flash as well). This has happened with a lot of filmmakers and it was something Famuyiwa was very aware of, while also admitting that it’s something he would have an interest in. I grew up on Spielberg and Lucas.

Deadline claims ” the feeling internally [at Warner Bros.] was that Famuyiwa provided a vision that would resonate with young viewers and that vision was very compatible with the script that the studio is moving toward the start gate with”. The movie isn’t slated for release until 2018, so it will have to bring it A-game: we’re hoping 2017’s Wonder Woman will be a tough act to follow.
