Dortmund deny Tuchel-Hummels rift

Having failed to get any of his defensive transfer targets during the Summer window, he is ready to launch improved bids for them again, and the club have been alerted concerning the situation of Borussia Dortmund’s central defender, Mats Hummels. However, Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke has refused to cower down to the reports of a possible rift and believes that the defender has been on the end of some very harsh criticism for his present form.

The Germany World Cup victor scored an own goal in their shock 3-1 defeat to Hamburg at the weekend, but his performances have been relatively good up until that point in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel echoed Watzke’s sentiments in his media conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League trip to Krasnodar. “I do not understand why I should reconsider whether he is right for the captaincy”, said Tuchel. He has a contract with The Black and Yellows until 2017.

Manchester United are going to bring in additions to the squad come January, and the defence department is a key area Louis van Gaal wants to improve on. The Spaniard – who was given his league debut by van Gaal at Barcelona – has been ostracised by the United boss after refusing to play for the under-21s last season.

But Valdes posted a message on Twitter on Wednesday. What do you make of this news? “I don’t see any basis for this discussion and this question”. Valdes is more likely to head back to Spain with Espanyol.
