Double from Kris Commons cools heat on Ronny Deila

Commons was at the centre of controversy following his angry response to being substituted in the 3-1 Europa League defeat to Molde in midweek.

The thing about all the affection and enthusiasm shown towards Kris Commons at Celtic Park was that it was far more interesting before it became perfectly natural.

Now the Hoops have to try and forget about their Europa League woes for a week – and continue their crusade on the home front with a League Cup clash at Hearts and Aberdeen in the league in the next five days. Now we are four points ahead.

Leigh Griffiths had slotted home his 13th goal of the season from a hard angle to give Celtic a 23rd-minute lead before Dedryck Boyata headed home number two in the 40th minute. We scored five goals and there were a lot of good individual performances.

“It was a great performance and a good team spirit as well”.

Celtic went four points ahead of second-placed Aberdeen while United, with new boss Mixu Paatelianen in charge for the second game, left the pitch somewhat bedraggled.

“We have turned it around in a month, so that’s something we should be proud of”. “Celtic Park is a big stadium to go around”.

Rogic came off the bench for Celtic after 65 minutes with his side already 4-0 up, and would have enjoyed proceedings much more than fellow Australians McGowan and Taggart.

On what appeared to be a diplomatic ditching of the “Ronny Roar”, Deila said: “I haven’t done it every time”.

Commons, who issued an public apology for his reaction to being substituted in Norway, scored a penalty just before the interval and found the top corner with a wonderful shot on 53 minutes.

One mix-up between Boyata and Craig Gordon, however, as they game drew to a close underlined just how vulnerable Celtic can be at the back.

The defeat leaves United firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, five points adrift of Partick Thistle.

“After that I’m not surprised that Dundee United are bottom of the league at the moment because we don’t do things right”.

“We made a few mistakes last week in my first game but all-in-all I thought we were OK. We were horrendous. It was a painful experience”. “It is going to be a long autumn and winter for us”.
