Doug Melvin is leaving as general manager of Brewers
Principal owner Mark Attanasio has hired a search firm to look for Melvin’s successor, likely a younger candidate with an analytics background. Attanasio plans to begin asking for permission to interview candidates this week during the owners meeting in Chicago, the team said. He sent Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to Houston in exchange for highly regarded prospects, and he traded Gerardo Parra to the Orioles for a pitcher who could break into the rotation in 2016. A 5-17 month of April led to the dismissal of manager Ron Roenicke, who was replaced by Craig Counsell on a three-year deal. The Brewers join the Los Angeles Angels as teams without permanent GMs in place.

Milwaukee faded badly down the stretch last season and has continued to struggle this year, sitting in last place with a 48-65 record. “I think there is momentum for the new general manager”.
One of his biggest moves was signing outfielder Ryan Braun to a $105 million, five-year extension in 2011 that linked him to the club through 2020.

Originally hired by the Brewers on September 26, 2002, Melvin immediately launched a rebuild that brought the team’s payroll down $40 million in 2003 and $27 million in 2004. He previously served as the Texas Rangers’ GM from 1994-2001 after stints in the front offices of the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.
