Doug Melvin To Take Advisory Role With Brewers
The tweet said Melvin will transition into an advisory role with the club. Attanasio plans to start asking for permission to interview candidates this week through the house owners assembly in Chicago, the staff stated.

Catcher Jonathan Lucroy said that while he had heard “rumblings” for a while about the move, he was happy for Melvin, who drafted him in the third round in 2007. I’d like to see this through as much as I can and get back to playoff baseball.
“We came close in 2011, we won 83 in 2012 and were only three or four games out”, Melvin said. “This is my decision, my gut feeling”. He sent Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to Houston in exchange for highly regarded prospects, and he traded Gerardo Parra to the Orioles for a pitcher who could break into the rotation in 2016.
Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell already has a job and isn’t interested in a new one anytime soon.
Milwaukee is hoping that emerging young starters Jimmy Nelson, Wily Peralta and rookie Taylor Jungmann can provide the pitching base for the rebuilding process.
This disappointing year follows the late-season collapse in 2014 when the Brewers fell out of first place and the playoff race.
“This is the time of year where there is speculation on managers, GMs, on players, on a lot of people”, says Melvin. “I think there is momentum for the new general manager”. “Working with Doug for the past three years I thought it was nearing kind of the end”. Counsell said he is not a candidate. And what’s the point if at that time you again deal them all away because you failed to have a winning season?
Melvin was named general manager of the Brewers in 2003, and built a losing ball club into a near. The Brewers are now in last place of the National League Central and need someone new to help rebuild a struggling team.
That game was made possible by a historic performance by left-hander CC Sabathia, whom Melvin acquired that July in a blockbuster deal with the Cleveland Indians.

Melvin pitched six seasons in the Minors from 1972-1978 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees, but he only made it to Double-A.
