Dineen passed away due to cancer at Marymount Hospital in Cork, Ireland on December 13, according to E!News. The “Plotlands” actor had reported gone to Germany earlier in 2015 for his cancer treatment.

“The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received but would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private”, a spokeswoman said for the actress said.

Dockery and Dineen were introduced by the former’s “Downton Abbey” co-star Allen Leech in 2013.

A deeply moving funeral was held for Mr Dineen ahead of what would have been his 35th birthday tomorrow.

Dineen was originally from Waterfall on the outskirts of Cork City and worked in financial PR in London. People reports that the two were introduced by Dockery’ “Downton Abbey” co-star, Allen Leech.

Dockery, who played Lady Mary Crawley in the hit TV series, was taking part in a promotional tour for the show as her partner’s health began to decline, and she put on a professional veneer during appearances on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last Wednesday and Watch What Happens Live on Thursday.

Ms Dockery cut short a trip promoting Downton Abbey in the USA to be by Mr Dineen’s side in the final days of his illness, at a hospice close to the home of his parents, Patrick and Marie.

Gifts brought to the altar included Mr Dineen’s favourite childhood toy- a stuffed monkey, a Munster rugby jersey as a symbol of his love of sport, while a tie represented his career successes.
