The statement identified the bus driver as Thomas B. Chidester, 58, of Salem, and said he has been charged with reckless driving by State Police.
The bus was a part of a local ride-share transportation service and is reported by NBC as being operated by Abbott Bus Lines of Roanoke, who are cooperating fully in the investigation.
Virginia State Police are investigating after shots were reportedly fired at a bus along Interstate 264 in Virginia Beach early Monday morning.
Students were on their way to University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Radford University.
One victim has critical injuries. “I was on my way home; I got a call that said the bus flipped over on Chippenham”. Abbott Trailways confirmed it was taking students back to area campuses after the Thanksgiving weekend.

The crash remained under investigation late Sunday, and authorities wouldn’t speculate on a cause.
Police were unable to locate a privately owned bus believed to have been involved in the incident until they received an anonymous tip.
