Dr. Dre announces release of first album

“It’s an “inspired-by” album, it’s inspired by Straight Outta Compton”, the new N.W.A. biopic coming out this month. The album will drop ahead of the movie and is actually available for pre order on iTunes. The first feature film he directed was 1995s Friday, and his other notable credits include The Italian Job, Be Cool, A Man Apart, and Law Abiding Citizen.

While he may not have released an album in many years, that doesn’t mean that Dre has been out of the studio entirely.

Well, just between you and me, I’ve seen it already, all epic length, 2 1/2 hours of it, and I think it’s pretty damn good. “I just wasn’t feeling it”.

Compton: The Soundtrack will coincide with the release of the NWA movie Straight Outta Compton. Two singles (“Kush” and “I Need A Doctor”) were released from that album, but apparently it won’t be seeing the light of day anytime soon.

The news came on Dre’s Beats 1 radio show, The Pharmacy, and he delivered the artwork via a Twitter post, because it 2015. Thanks to the hot reviews of the film and the intense buzz, that might end up being a deal that pays off huge for Apple Music in their infancy. The original group included Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E. On the new album Dre is joined by a laundry list of guest stars, including Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and former N.W.A. bandmate, Ice Cube. King Mez & Justus 3. It has the market all by itself for several weeks, so a $40 million opening weekend sounds pretty fair to me. Eminem, Jill Scott and BJ the Chicago Kid are also featured on the album.
