DraftKings Files for Temporary Restraining Order in NY

DraftKings and FanDuel continue to fight for their lives in New York and are now asking the New York Supreme Court to allow them to continue operating in the state until they resolve their lawsuits against the New York Attorney General.

Schneiderman’s office last week sent cease-and-desist letters Wednesday to DraftKings and FanDuel, setting off a major legal and public relations battle with the two sites.

Schneiderman’s office scoffed at the legislation. “Just like Uber goes through regulatory issues, just like Airbnb goes regulatory issues, so do we”. Of course, when you actually look at the stats, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Speaking at the Mobile and Tablet Gambling Summit Europe in London, Marantelli said there are contrasting views as to what the companies are worth.

The world’s largest private-sector coal company, Peabody Energy, agreed to revise shareholder disclosures after Schneiderman’s investigators said Peabody had privately projected that potential carbon-cutting regulations could seriously lower sales, but publicly claimed it couldn’t predict such risks.

Critics of the hugely popular betting sites – DraftKings and FanDuel, most notably – argue that they constitute illegal gambling. A spokeswoman on Monday said that the company is running two to three days behind payouts to players withdrawing their money due to a new identity verification system.

DraftKings says 7 percent of its customers are in NY.

He has said his only political plans are to run for re-election in 2018. It is seeking the injunction in part so that it can resume regular operations, it said.

Daily fantasy sports companies believe they are legal under a 2006 federal law that cracked down on online gambling but exempted paid daily fantasy sports under certain conditions, including that they reflect the skill of the participants as opposed to pure luck or chance.

John Oliver took on daily fantasy sports last night, a market seemingly duopolized by DraftKings and FanDuel, and one that’s become so ubiquitous that it’s nearly a surprise when you consume anything related to the National Football League and there’s not a hint of either company anywhere. However, that law carved out a convenient loophole for fantasy sports.

New York’s attorney general recently made a decision to outlaw the sites.

He said: “I hope no-one from Amayas here, but theyre basically saying theyre withdrawing from states where they didnt have business anyway.”.

In MA, Coakley’s successor and former protégé, Attorney General Maura Healey, is conducting a review of fantasy sports businesses as state officials wrangle over a key issue: Are these games of chance or skill? FanDuel and DraftKings are now valued at more than $1 billion, and DraftKings has a contract with Disney that guarantees $250 million on advertisements on ESPN, according to Sports Business Journal.
