Dragon’s Lair: The Movie Kickstarter launched by Don Bluth

Don Bluth, who has been known back in the 80s for his animated films like “The Land Before Time”, “An American Tail”, and “The Secrets of NIMH”, as well as more recent ones like “Anastasia” is now seriously considering making a new animated film. That would be used to make a 10-minute teaser that Bluth and Goldman would then pitch a full-length movie to Hollywood studios.

Although I’m probably showing my age, Dragon’s Lair consumed a large chunk of my youth.

But animated movies cost a lot of money, time, and compromises, especially when dealing with major film studios and investors.

Writing on Kickstarter, Bluth and Goldman said it’s Dragon’s Lair, not any of their films, that fans know them best for. Crowdfunding, however, makes it easier for independent filmmakers and game developers to move forward, thanks to consumer support. And they’re asking for $550,000 on Kickstarter to do it.

Dragon’s Lair is the iconic laserdisc arcade game from the early 80s and helped to shape video games for a generation.

You can still play Dragon’s Lair via smartphone and tablet apps, but the story of Dirk and Daphne has never been resolved. He’s also continued working in the video game industry on games like the mobile phone update of Tapper called Tapper World Tour. They have launched a 0,000 Kickstarter campaign to get the project up and running. But Bluth and Goldman are offering plenty of incentives to potential backers for the trailer, with Kickstarter tiers featuring original animation cells, a seat in an animation class hosted by Don Bluth, and a personalized caricature from Bluth and Goldman.

Not to mention that the perks ain’t bad either, including a MasterClass on Animation taught by the man himself for $5,000 which isn’t bad considering that’s the cost of supplies for a single class in art college. Pledging at least $75 gets you access to the pitch video once it’s complete. The smallest rewards for a pledge of $15 will get you two digital postcards with scenes from the arcade game.
