Drake’s mixtape becomes first 2015 album to sell 1 million copies
He is the second artist to score a platinum plaque in 2015 – Taylor Swift’s 1989, which was released in late 2014, has sold more than 1.4 million copies since the start of the year, taking its total soaring past the 5.1 million mark. It is the first album released this year to sell 1 million copies.

That very week, while rap bloggers and opinionated fans vigorously debated both sides, Meek quietly eked out a win by earning gold status for two of his 2012 singles: “Dreams And Nightmares” and, to wit, the Drake-featuring single “Amen”. The album will reportedly be released on Apple Music after Drake partnered with the streaming service earlier this year.
“IYRTITL” becomes the first album arriving in 2015 to go platinum. Who was the first? “Platinum off the tape”. The mixtape immediately topped the charts with close to 500,000 copies sold within three days of its debut. “Views up next. Thank you once again”, he wrote while teasing his upcoming “Views From the 6” album that’s expected to be released later this year.

The landmark achievement follows Drake’s highly publicised dispute with rival Meek Mill, which began when Mill accused Drake of not writing his own lyrics.
