Dramatic footage of El Chapo arrest raid

The Mexican government has released a 15-minute video, which shows the gunfight that led to the capture of the world’s most wanted drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton reports that a us law enforcement source said that the trail to El Chapo had gone cold when Penn’s contact with the powerful drug lord unwittingly provided a trove of leads which ultimately led to the legendary fugitive’s capture by Mexican authorities.

Arely Gomez Gonzalez spoke Monday, the same day Mexico’s El Universal newspaper published photographs that show Penn and Kate del Castillo – a Mexican actress who helped broker the interview – reportedly arriving in Guadalajara, Mexico, ahead of meeting with Guzman.

Mexican forces recaptured drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman last week, six months after his prison escape. That’s when Penn learned of the “El Chapo” movie project but had no involvement in its dealings. Although Sean Penn met with El Chapo to conduct an interview, Mexican authorities are arguing a totally different perspective of the secret meeting.

In lieu of that, El Chapo sent Penn some video footage with answers to written questions that were frankly not very revealing, and came off more like a professional athlete spouting cliches than a wanted criminal exposing his inner self.

Penn wrote in the article of elaborate security precautions, including switching phones.

Guzman also told Penn the drug trade would continue regardless of whether he was free or in prison. Mexican officials also want to question Mexican actress Kate del Castillo.

That’s the start of the process, though the head of extradition for the Mexican attorney general’s office told local media that it will probably take at least a year to extradite Guzman.

Officials defended the decision to put him back in the same prison, saying security was beefed up.

One of the two small planes they boarded is pictured, supposedly heading toward Guzman’s hideout in northwestern Mexico.

He got in touch with Del Castillo and she, through some mutual acquaintances, involved Penn.

The GoPro cameras mounted on the helmets of marines show the soldiers storm the house, launching grenades and firing heavily when moving from room to room in search of Guzman.

“I supply more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world”, Guzman said over sips of tequila.

In the interview with Penn published by Rolling Stone, Guzman said he felt neither remorse nor responsibility for smuggling billions of dollars worth of drugs into the United States. El Chapo shouldn’t get transferred across the border because “our country must respect national sovereignty, the sovereignty of its institutions to impart justice”, Badillo said.

Some in Washington have expressed concern that Guzman may make a third escape if he is left in the care of a Mexican prison system that has been found wanting twice before.
