Drew stars as Jess, who lives in a boathouse with her boyfriend Jago (Paddy Considine) and desperately wants a baby. That meant so much to me and I was so relieved, because I really thought so much of them through filming.

The R.E.M. song “Losing My Religion” features in the film, which tells the story of how two friends cope when one gets cancer, and Toni, 42, asked Michael if he would let them use the tune because their budget wouldn’t stretch to pay for it.

The Hitchcock actress – who was all smiles as she posed alongside Barrymore – said of the new film: “It’s so exciting to share the film with the people of London since we made it here and it’s so dear to us and we had a bloody great time”. That’s until Millie discovers she has breast cancer and their worlds are blown apart.

Collette sported a stunning green Herve Leger dress for the event and a short crop, having shaved her head to play the chemotherapy patient.

Jacqueline Bisset, who plays her on-screen mother Miranda, reported: “She was very courageous . But I was very admiring that she did it with such a relaxed manner”. The scene where she did have to have her hair shaved off – I must say I did baulk slightly, as her “mother”.

Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the film, indicates female directors are also struggling in Hollywood. “Add laughter to their lives even if they’re going through a tough time”. On Monday, September 21st, there will be a special preview screening held in Smithfield’s luxurious Lighthouse Cinema in aid of the Irish Cancer Society charity.
