Drew Brees believes he’ll play against Panthers

Nobody would be happier than Strief if Brees is back under center on Sunday at Carolina.

Don’t get your hopes up just yet, Saints fans.

They yielded all of those points in a 24-17 win against Houston in last Sunday’s home opener. “There are a lot of other reasons”, coach Ron Rivera said of his team’s swoon.

“(Tuesday) night was the first night in game-planning, we’ll get to work on it today. But New Orleans must prepare for the Panthers’ best.

If not for the fact that he didn’t throw a pass, there would have been no obvious indication that he is in a race to recover from a bruised rotator cuff by Sunday, when New Orleans tries to avoid dropping to 0-3 at Carolina.

Brees told New Orleans media that he did not throw at practice on Wednesday, but Payton said that won’t be the case for the rest of the week.

Saints right tackle and offensive captain Zach Strief said he couldn’t argue with anyone saying the Saints’ offense hasn’t been as potent as usual. Receiver Willie Snead said he noticed the quarterback’s arm was hurting and he was having trouble passing deep.

“Drew’s a warrior”, Snead said. We are going to prepare as if everything is status quo.

The Saints, who averaged 411 yards and three TDs per game last season, have averaged 287 yards and two TDs per game through Week 2 of this season.

“Yeah, that’s what you think about when you think of your throwing shoulder, “stated Brees”.

Newton connected on just 10 of 28 passes for a career-worst 35.7 completion rate.

Brandin Cooks also appears to have an ankle injury, and unfortunately, Sean Payton will likely say nothing, which means we’ll have to wait until Friday. It’s not like I’m not doing things, though, that aren’t related to throwing. For the most part we prepare for him. “They’re going to come in here fired up and ready to play”. That’s among Payton’s many concerns.

The Saints have a tough divisional matchup with the Panthers on Sunday. “You know with him the one thing: There won’t be a stone unturned for him to get back”.
