Drew Brees suffered a torn plantar fascia in loss to Detroit
Do they stick with head coach Sean Payton who, despite the recent struggles, has an 85-57 overall record as head coach?

Wait a second: Caldwell offered no explanation for what led to safety James Ihedigbo calling a time-out at the end of the first half when the Lions were out of time-outs.
There has been talk of both firing Payton and trading Drew Brees.
The Lions’ last-ranked running game accounted for 150 yards and two TDs against New Orleans’ last-ranked run defense, with Ameer Abdullah and Joique Bell each scoring a TD and rushing for more than 70 yards.
The quarterback is now more than 1,000 yards behind Dan Marino, who is third on the career yardage list, while the Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is first with 71,871 yards and Brett Favre follows with 71,838. If he’s healthy enough to play and can take the field without the risk of further injuring his foot, Payton will play his starting quarterback, but it’s too early to say whether or not Brees can go.
Payton said Brees, who has one more season left on his current contract, would be held out if Saints trainers were concerned about the risk of worsening the injury or exposing Brees to undue contact from pass rushers because of a lack of mobility.
Let’s check out some of the notable players and stats from the game so we can determine why things played out the way they did. Brandin Cooks made a career-high 10 catches for 124 yards and a touchdown.
Brees said he wants to play the final two games of the season after not missing a snap while playing nearly three full quarters with the injury Monday night.
In that game, backup quarterback Luke McCown started and completed 31 of 38 passes for 310 yards and an interception in the 27-22 loss.
Conversely, the Saints are among the league’s bottom three in all major defensive statistics – 32nd in points allowed, 31st in total yards allowed, 30th against the pass and 32nd against the run.
There has also been growing speculation that the Saints could consider trading Brees in the offseason because he turns 37 in January and will cost $30 million against New Orleans’ salary cap in the final year of his contract in 2016.
Injuries: Late in the second quarter, the Lions lost star CB Glover Quin to a concussion. The Saints finished the contest with 69 yards and a 3.8 average on only 18 attempts with a long of 17 yards.

Soon after Cooks’ catch, Tim Hightower reached the end zone with a second-effort run, but New Orleans was penalized for illegal formation, with officials saying lineman Senio Kelemete failed to report as an eligible tight end. The first time was Game 3 this year, against Carolina on September 27. Those two turned it around, and the fact that they did it when the city was in shambles after Hurricane Katrina will always make them loom large in Saints history. Meanwhile, Lance Moore also had one catch, which gained 10 yards.
