Drew Brees unsure why contract talks with Saints have not progressed

The Saints quarterback said he hasn’t heard a peep about contract negotiations from the organization in three months.

“Not sure why things have not progressed”, Brees said, via Mike Triplett of ESPN. “And besides the Josh Norman deal (when Sean Payton approached Brees about a pay cut to make room for Norman in New Orleans), there has been no talk about a contract since”.

Reports suggest that there is a non-official deadline set for the sides to come to terms on a contract that falls at the start of the regular season on September 11.

Will Brees get a new deal before the season starts? However, the franchise did very little in free agency and ended up being able to carry his gargantuan contract into the season without running into salary cap problems.

Brees, however, has insisted that he won’t hold out or skip any practice time, and he fully participated in OTAs and minicamp.

Now as you’ve no doubt noticed if you’re a Saints fan and you read our coverage here at Big Easy Believer, we’ve been taking an exclusive look at the players who likely will be impacting Training Camp the most this year – whether it be good or bad.

The 37-year-old is entering the final season of his five-year, $100 million contract.

Flacco signed for a record $22.13 million per year in new money in March. Then Luck shattered that mark with $24.6 million per year in new money last month.

Brees’ age may be working against him when compared to younger star quarterbacks.

Brees is still going strong, though.
