Drew Goddard Hopes That Sinister Six Will Still Happen

However, we won’t see a new Spider-Man standalone film until July 2017. Fans were particularly disappointed to see this potentially unique take on the genre sacrificed in the arrangement, though most likely believe that it was necessary collateral damage in order to get Spider-Man back to Marvel.

According to io9, Drew Goddard, Sinister Six’s screenwriter and director hopeful, has high hopes for the movie that has us sitting with our fingers crossed.

“I intentionally wanted a movie that didn’t have to worry about mythology and continuity”, said Goddard in a recent interview with i09.

“I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high school movie”, he said, praising Holland’s athleticism. That’s all great fun, but it also seems to mean that any expaned universe plans Sony had are done. I love that you get to see Spider-Man in Marvel movies.

Meanwhile, we know Marisa Tomei has been confirmed to play Aunt May, however there’s no word yet on who’ll play Uncle Ben.

Obviously, the studio is starting young with the intent of keeping the underdog, outsider, teenage Spider-Man as long as they possibly can – arguably the most appealing version of the character.

However, it looks like that Sinister Six movie could still make it to the big screen one day.

We’ve known for some time that Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot would not be an origin story, and would feature a high school aged Peter Parker. In the Comic books, this was an enormous component of the character’s development. Tom Holland has been chosen as the new web-slinger, and he’s going to make his first Marvel Studios’ appearance in Captain America: Civil War, but how old will he be? But when The awesome Spider-Man 2 failed to live up to both box office and fan expectation, Sony put all of it’s Spider-Man inspired films on hold. Hopefully the remake is a success.

So, Goddard’s Sinister Six structure is adaptable, which is very good news for Sony if they do decide to expand Spidey’s borders in the years to come.
