“It appears the bus experienced a tire failure”, Lt. Jeff Gordon of the State Highway Patrol told WRAL.

Hamilton attended Clinton College in the Rock Hill area of SC.

Multiple deaths and dozens of injuries were reported after a football team’s charter bus crashed in North Carolina Saturday afternoon. Darice Hicks, the 10-year-old son of a coach, was also killed.

Rahma Juco players were headed to Fayetteville’s Lake Rim Park to take on University of God’s Chosen. The bus was carrying members of the Ramah Juco Academy football team.

The teams consist of junior college students who want to play football but don’t attend a school that has a team, Terry told WNCN.

The incident happened around 70 miles southeast of Charlotte.

Westbound lanes were expected to remain closed indefinitely where the heavily damaged bus ran off the road and into the median.

“As soon as it stopped we just jumped outside the window. that’s when the paramedics came and all that, and that’s when they were calling my friend Teto”, Corbitt-Washington said.

A special accident reconstruction team will likely spend weeks on its crash report, Gordon said.

This story has been corrected to show the name of coach Demetrius Hollingsworth’s school is the University of God’s Chosen, not Children.

He later posted on his Facebook page asking everyone to offer prayers to coach Bakari Rawlinson and the student-athletes involved in the crash.
