AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in unincorporated Auburndale this evening. The truck had damage to the front passenger headlight assembly, the hood and passenger side “consistent with the aforementioned crash”, according to the arrest report.

Deputies investigating the crash worked through the night to identify and arrest 54-yea-old Randy Joe Allen of 4540 Country Trail Drive in Polk City.

Allen said he had been at a different bar earlier and left with a woman.

A witness told deputies she saw a green 2000 Ford F-250 truck continue without stopping after it struck Terry Lamun Ross, who was riding his bicycle on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 92 around 7:45 p.m., authorities said. He said he was distracted by his female passenger when he hit the bicyclist, according to PCSO.

He said he struck something on the side of the road, but thought it was a stop sign.

The female passenger was interviewed at the Royal Inn Motel in Winter Haven. He added that he was “distracted” by his passenger and did not see what he hit, Horstman said. The police reported that during the questioning Randy Allen was slurring his words and seemed to have been drinking heavily.

The family members of Mr Ross have been notified about his death.

She stayed at the scene as long as it took to give Polk Sheriff’s deputies the detailed description of the crash, the suspect, and his truck. Since “she did not have any reason to not believe him”, she continued oral sex on Allen as they left the scene. Other charges are pending the results of the blood draw analysis.
