Driver killed during shootout with CHP officers
Five people died and two were airlifted with major injuries from a crash about seven miles east of Groveland Saturday evening.

Norton said one of the cars is a 2012 Mercedes registered in San Jose and the other is a 2012 Nissan registered in Merced.
Highway 120 which was near Smith Station Road had been closed ever since this accident & has remained inaccessible for the most part of Saturday night according to Norton.
Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. She was reported in stable condition Sunday afternoon. Two people made it out alive and got flown to a Modesto hospital.
Drugs and/or alcohol have not been ruled out as a possible factors in the crash.
A Sig-alert was issued for the highway’s northbound lanes at 12:15 a.m. Authorities said they did not know when the highway would reopen. His name hasn’t been released.
