Driver thrown from auto lands on freeway sign 20 feet up

Shortly before 7:30 a.m., firefighters were sent to assist officers at Colorado Boulevard, just north of the 134 Freeway, for report of a single-car fatal collision, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The gruesome crash happened Friday morning, shortly after someone reported a vehicle driving erratically and at a high rate of speed in the area, California Highway Patrol Officer Chad Guin told BuzzFeed News. Authorities said the victim’s Toyota Prius rolled several times, and the driver was catapulted onto the sign. Pananian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency responders covered the victim’s remains as traffic continued to move along on Interstate 5.

The auto apparently hit a tractor-trailer then flipped, ejecting the man’s body from the vehicle.

The wreckage of the vehicle came to rest under the sign. It’s unclear how many cars were involved or if anyone else was injured.
