Drone Drops Drugs In Ohio Prison Yard

The package, which contained 6.6 grams of heroin, 65.4 grams of marijuana and 144 grams of tobacco, was dropped July 29 at about 2:30 p.m., according to Fox’s Cleveland affiliate Fox 8.

The corrections department spokesperson in Mansfield, OH said the drone dropped heroin, marijuana and tobacco into the Mansfield Correctional Institution prison yard.

Smith said there have been other instances of drones breaching security and the agency is taking steps to increase awareness and improve drone detection. The inmates were all ordered to the ground, taken to the prison gyms and searched.

According to the [Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction], on July 27 a fight broke out on the north recreation yard, and corrections officers Jade Wojciechowski and Melinda Hane called for assistance and gave orders for the inmates to stop fighting.

The nine people involved in the fight were placed in solitary confinement.

Authorities in Ohio said a fight in a prison yard was found to be spurred by a package of drugs dropped into the facility by a drone. The inmates complied and remained on the ground as other staff responded.

When drones first hit the market they were costly and basically a toy for the rich, but they are now within the average person’s reach as far as their price tag, so they are more prevalent today than ever before.

All inmates in both the north recreation and south recreation yards underwent mandatory strip searches and clinic checks.
