Later the same day, al-Turki said, security forces thwarted an attempt by a suicide bomber to enter the Mosque of the Prophet in Medina, considered Islam’s second holiest site.

Saudi Arabia said a suicide bomber who attacked Prophet Mohammed’s mosque in the city of Medina on July 4, was a 26-year-old Saudi citizen with a history of drug abuse.

The Saudi interior ministry said a bombing near the USA consulate in Jeddah was carried out by Pakistani national Abdullah GulzarKhan, 34, a private driver who had been living with his wife and her parents in the city for 12 years.

A spokesperson said in a statement that authorities had also identified the suicide attackers who struck in Medina, at a Shia mosque in Qatif and in western Jeddah, the economic capital, not far from the U.S. consulate.

Shia states and organizations have likewise condemned Monday’s triple attack, including Iran, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi militant group.

Egypt’s foreign ministry said the attack in the holy month showed that terrorism “knows no religion or belief or any meaning of humanity”.

Following an intensive investigation, 19 persons – seven Saudis and twelve Pakistanis – who were involved in the terrorist attacks in Madinah, Qatif and Jeddah, have been arrested, the officials added.

The statement also named three individuals it said carried out attacks on Monday in Qatif.

Naer Muslim Hamad crossed a auto park next to the Prophet’s mosque and detonated an explosive belt near a security headquarters, killing four soldiers, the state news agency SPA quoted a ministry spokesman as saying. According to a ministry spokesman, 12 of those arrested in connection with the bombings, which also included one at the United States consulate in Jeddah, were Pakistanis and seven Saudis.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has vowed that his government will “strike with an iron fist”.

The bomber, who died instantly, was identified as a Pakistani.
