Guzman was recaptured on Friday in northwest Mexico and is now back in the same maximum security prison he escaped from in July via a tunnel that burrowed right up into his cell.

Del Castillo has not publicly commented on the meeting. Even when Guzman dedicated a video statement as an exclusive for Del Castillo and Penn, the drug lord stumbles over Penn’s first name, pronouncing it “SAY-ahn”.

In the messages, Guzman fawns over the “beautiful” actress, who in turn confesses her “dream” of meeting him.
The actress finally broke her silence on the matter Wednesday night when she tweeted a thank you to her allies for their support. “Not surprisingly, many have chosen to make up items they think will make good stories and that aren’t truthful”, she wrote in English.
He replied: “I’m more excited about you than the story”.
During the operation, code named Tlatelolco as it was supposed to occur on the October 2 anniversary of a famous 1968 Mexico City massacre, one of the marines had Guzman in his sites, but chose not to pull the trigger as Chapo had a young girl in his arms, Loret de Mola said.
In light of that, it is surprising that Guzman, who spent years evading capture, would have continued in such constant contact with the actress.
Mexico has received guarantees from a court in Texas that if it receives Guzman as part of his extradition, it will not seek the death penalty against him, the Attorney General Office’s head of International Proceedings, Jose Manuel Merino, said in a newspaper interview on Tuesday.
Mexican authorities have said they want to question (link in Spanish) the actress about the meeting.
