Drum kit Ringo Starr used in Beatles hits sells for $2.2M

He has reunited the Beatles, sort of.

Ringo Starr’s old drum kit has sold for £1.46million at auction within the United States, writes Karen Rockett within the Sunday.

Irsay owns prominent guitars from the group’s other three members – Paul McCartney, the late George Harrison and the late John Lennon.

“Finally, after 45 years, the Beatles are together again”, Irsay said in a text message to the AP.

Meanwhile, Irsay soon could be giving his head coach and/or G.M. the Pete Best treatment.

It featured in more than 200 performances between May 1963 and February 1964 and can be heard in smash hits such as Can’t Buy Me Love, She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand.

Part of the proceeds from the sale will go to the Lotus Foundation, which was founded by the musician and his wife, Barbara Bach, to ‘fund, support, participate in and promote charitable projects aimed at advancing social welfare in diverse areas.
