Although the construction of the mini-city is yet to receive a deadline date, the elaborate plans for the district demonstrate how Dubai continues to lead innovation in forward-thinking urban projects.

The “all-season city district” will include 9 million square feet of retail space including three malls, 4.5 million square feet of outdoor shopping space.

However if aerial gondolas aren’t your favourite form of transport, you can make use of the district’s comprehensive cycling network which spans more than 33 parks and open spaces.

The district will comprise 47 million square feet (4.3 million square kilometers) of gross floor area along Dubai’s main artery street Sheikh Zayed Road and will introduce “new global standards in city planning”, reported United Arab Emirates state news agency WAM.

The upcoming development looks set to echo Sheikh Mohammed’s vision for a “smart” city, and includes a range of environmentally-friendly transport options and facilities.

The 47 million sqft development will be located off Sheikh Zayed Road, in the shadow of the Burj Al Arab.

Speaking about the development, Sheikh Mohammed said: “Jumeirah Central is a clear milestone in our journey towards building the city of the future and the creation of engaged and happy communities”.

Sheikh Mohammed added: “The city is created to be self-sufficient and will include various facilities such as hospitals, schools, offices, accommodations, gardens, police stations, malls and integrated community facilities”. “To that end, our vision will continuously evolve and expand”, His Highness added.

Mohammad Kamal, a research analyst at Dubai-based Arqaam Capital, said that while Jumeirah Central could provide new business for construction companies in the region, they were struggling with hard conditions in the industry. “All project plans and designs have been endorsed by government authorities in Dubai and we expect to start development in the coming months”, His Excellency Mohammed Abdulla Al Gergawi, Chairman of Dubai Holding, said.

Capable of hosting 100 million visitors per year, Jumeriah Central offers 7,200 hotel rooms, which will be the largest number of hotel rooms located in one district.
