Dubnyk, Koivu lead Wild to 5-2 win over Rangers

New York Rangers’ goaltender Antti Raanta left the game midway through the first period after receiving a point blank slap shot to the forehead.

Raanta got the start on the front end of the back-to-back road games, with Henrik Lundqvist slated to start in Winnipeg. Vanek’s turnover sent Rangers defenseman Keith Yandle on a breakaway forcing Vanek to hook him, which resulted in a penalty shot for Yandle just 49 seconds in.

Thursday’s win was the ninth straight game in which the Wild have earned at least a point, their longest such streak of the season. He went 27-9-2 with five shutouts, a 1.78 goals-against average and a. 936 save percentage in 39 games after the trade, winning the Bill Masterton Trophy while finishing third in the voting for the Vezina and fourth for the Hart.

Matt Dumba’s power-play goal at 17:30 of the second period as he batted in the puck from the left post gave the Wild a 2-0 lead but Dominic Moore beat Dubnyk over his glove to the upper right corner from the slot with 8.9 seconds left in the second period.

Raanta was knocked from the game at 13:49 of the first period when Marco Scandella’s shot from the right circle hit him square in the mask. Raanta allowed one goal on four shots in 6 minutes, 11 seconds. Rangers rookie D Brady Skjei, who grew up in nearby Lakeville, Minn., before playing three seasons at the University of Minnesota, played in just his second National Hockey League game and first in his home state….

Dubnyk’s glove save denied Yandle’s attempt to lift the Rangers to an early lead. Tonight’s game should be very exciting and while I am a little tired of Dubnyk’s return coming ina tough spot I think the team will account for that and as such this one should stay under the number, which is going to be a very popular play on the board. “We’ll find out a little bit more tomorrow and we, obviously, have to do something cap-wise; we’ve got to call up a goaltender for tomorrow”.

The Minnesota Wild have claimed center Jarret Stoll off waivers from the New York Rangers. Injuries to D Dan Girardi, C Derek Stepan and D Kevin Klein continue to keep the trio out of the Rangers lineup. C Erik Haula was a healthy scratch to make room for Stoll….
